This is where I will dump my thoughts on fitness, weight loss, mommy-brain, and how I plan to become a ninja and have a good life for the second half, because I tell you, the first half hasn't always been a bucket of roses.
Like most women, I've struggled with my weight and with "self image issues" for much of my life. I remember cracking my mom up when I said I had thunder thighs. I'm pretty sure I was 11.
There are a few things wrong with this, and I will address them in FAQ form.

Q: Where in my short life did I ever learn the term "thunder thighs"?
A: Probably TEEN magazine. (This was pre-internet. I know, I'm ancient).
Q: Why did it matter at that age?
A: Are you kidding me?? Girls (boys too) are constantly barraged with "oh she's so cute" and "aren't you pretty" and all sorts of appearance-centered remarks from the second they are born. I catch myself telling my six year old son all the time that he's cute. In my defense, he is freakin' adorable. But he's also got a razor-sharp mind, does his math homework without even thinking and is hailed as being an excellent playground soccer player.
Q: Why did my mom laugh?
A: Because it's ridiculous that a pre-teen girl would even think about her thighs. And yet.
So thirty years, one wedding and two pregnancies later, I found myself in a true thunder thigh scenario. I had NO energy, NO self-esteem, and NO idea how I got here and how to get out. Oh sure, my gym rat husband, who lifts weights religiously four times a week, told me, "If you don't like it, do something about it." But WHAT??? I would go to the gym, and then came home and ate the same crap he eats. Chips, soft drinks, ice cream, french fries, fast food, beer, wine.
I finally decided that I had to do something about it. We all have our aha moments, and in my case I had a couple of them. (More on that later)
Since I started my journey on March 10, I have lost 20 pounds, kicked a 30 year addiction to sugar, soft drinks and caffeine, and am eating better than I have ever eaten in my life. I work out every morning for 30 minutes, drink a gallon of water per day and eat clean. I am not done yet. But I am on my way.
Believe me, there's nothing special about me. It simply became more important to change than it did to stay the same.
