But if you're anything like me, you don't drink nearly as much as you should. Instead you drink coffee or soda, tea or lemonade, and try to convince yourself that hydration is hydration, that any liquid will do the trick of meeting your water needs.
I'm here to tell you that you are an idiot.
Now before you get all bunched in the britches, I'll admit I made the same mistake. I drank diet colas and somehow deluded myself into thinking that water wasn't that important. See? You're not the only idiot in this article.
I'm not here to tell you the science of why you should drink water. There are thousands of articles on the world wide web that can tell you that. I'm just here to tell you...

My Story
One day, I was innocently procrastinating via Facebook when I came across a post from a friend talking about her three day water challenge (Drink One Gallon of Water per Day for Three Days).
I can do that, I scoffed. And suddenly I was listening to myself. I can do that.
So out of nowhere I hijacked my friend's water challenge post and declared, "I'm going to do this!"
My Rules
1. Drink one gallon of water per day.
That's it. I didn't try to change my eating habits, didn't commit to drinking less soda, didn't commit to working out. JUST. DRINK. THE WATER.
My Experience
The first two days I peed like a racehorse. Actually, having no clue how racehorses pee, let's just say it was a lot. By day three my body seemed to realize that this water thing wasn't just a fluke, so my trips to the bathroom lessened.

I noticed that I was eating better, and it sort of just happened. I mean, why make the effort of drinking a gallon of water and then go and eat junk? Also, I simply didn't want it.
I began to have more energy and less bloating in my belly. Hallelujah! I no longer had to live with the fear of someone asking me when my baby was due. (Oh, yeah... it's happened.)

As a result of increased energy, I started walking my kids to school (a 40 minute roundtrip). I let my dog tag along, and he was ever so grateful.
I felt so good, my three day water challenge turned into a week.
My Results
In one week I lost NINE pounds. Yes, Virginia. Nine pounds.
I should also add that midway through the week I began to drink Shakeology, which is a high nutrition drink that is really AMAZING and I know contributed to my weight loss.
Before the week was up, I had decided that I was going to keep the momentum going on my fitness journey. I didn't want to go back to feeling bloated, tired, crabby and ugly. I was going to do what it takes to live a healthy, happy life. And that's when I started the 21 Day Fix. (more on that later)
I still drink a gallon of water per day, by the way.
My Challenge to You
I double dog dare you to take the three day water challenge. Drink a gallon of water every day for three days. There are no other rules. Just. Drink. The water. Then come back and tell me how you feel. Comment below or on my Facebook page and let me know! You will be amazed, stupefied, and a little bit embarrassed that you didn't do it sooner (I know I am).
